Mwa ha, a day off and the house to myself for the next week. I think I will be doing a fair amount of drinking the next few days, until I take off for Palooza at least. I am trying to decide what to go rent tonight, I sorta wanna watch Jason goes to Hell and A New Nightmare. See the last two movies of Freddy and Jason, not counting the...atrocious Jason X. I think I will rent some crappy horror movies, and have pizza. Yes....excellent....

For me its a toss up between Vertigo and The Man Who Knew too Much(Peter Lorre is the man!)...I just got back from a George Clinton show. He playedPalooza back in '95, I think. I'm pretty trashed right now, too, actually....was Freddy vs. Jason actually worth the last five years of hype?

I read The Once and Future King years ago as part of a study I was doing on the Romantic story line archetype. Where are you in the book? I think the the thing that drove me the most crazy about it (and this is really ridiculous blush ) is that I kept wondering just how in the hell Merlin could be "living backwards in time." Have you ever read Gabriel Garcia Marquez? If your into the whole fantasy-story-with-relevant-social-points thing, you might enjoy him. You might start w/Leaf Storm; its a collection of short stories (that way you can see whether you're interested in diving into one of his (rather difficult) novels). Are you really into horror? I'm a film student; I'm trying to make a film right now based on a lot of the ideas from the late 60's/early 70's "little devil movies" ( The Omen, The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, et al.). Suspense films always directly reflect what the culture is most afraid of at the time they are being filmed (i.e. 40's Film Noir-fear of post WWII/Rosey the Rivator feminism/independent women; 50's Sci-Fi reflecting fear of could war invasion; 80's slasher/teen horror flicks reflect fear of inner city/other wise degenerates coming to corrupt/destroy our good All American Reaganite teenagers, etc.) Anyway, I think that all these childern-as-the-devil films were reflection of our grandparents' irrational fears that society was going to hell because of their hippie/communist/beatnik/junkie/take-your-pick childern. I think that this "genre" of film could be very well reworked in the face of American society's post 9-11 invasion fears. (Given, for example, The Exorcist's depiction of the demon as having orginated from Iraq) Any thoughts or opinions you have about these movies would be greatly appreciated. Do you ever watch any old Italian horror films from the 60's/70's? Try anything directed by Lucio Fulci-City of the Living andDon't Torture a Duckling are among my personal favorites of his. Another "classic" of early Italian horror cinema was the orginal Carnival of Souls; stupid movie, but some of the indivual images are among the most eerie I've ever seen. Let me know when you finish The Once and Future King...
