"I remember how the darkness doubled
And the lighting struck itself
I was listening to the rain
But I was hearing something else..."
it's pouring down the rain, here. train whistles out on the levee. i wanted to sleep all day but my back starting hurting and woke me up, as it likes to do when i lay around for more than ten hours.
going to make me a pot of coffee. sit around and listen to the rain.
then i'm going to do some dishes.
then... who knows? maybe i will draw.
love.

Ancient Ancient Age is pretty good. Hearty. I would love to do a taste test, a blindfold one, of ALL the bourbons to prove I know what I mean. I'm quite sure I could recognize Beam as the worst (so far). I know I could recognize Jack... it'd be interesting to run up on Jack and Gent Jack in a blindfold test. They both have that rubbery tint, and I can't imagine why (casks made of old NBA balls?), but they are still far preferable to me than Maker's Mark, Knob's Creek, or Beam (not all bars have the 101 option, but it is I guess better than Jack... I still think Gent Jack is the smoothest, if not the best-tasting.... well, maybe Wild Turkey Rare Breed, which is better than 101).
When I was learning about bourbons, I came upon a website from a guy from Kentucky. He made it clear that was where his loyalty lay. He told the story that Jack Daniels (THE Jack Daniels) couldn't open his office safe one day, so he kicked it. The toe broke. Gangrene set in. That's how he died. The website guy was saying- a Kentucky gentleman wouldn't have behaved like that.
Well, maybe... but crazydasaint is right that Tennessee's Dickel #12 is very good, up there with KY's best. And Virginia Gentleman is okay (a KY/VA product).
I also think I could identify Old Grand-dad in a taste test; it's the sweetest. Old Whiskey River is slightly smoky; I don't go for smoky-flavored things much, but it might be my fave... and it's Willie Nelson-endorsed.
You can look for my other thoughts on booze at rateitall.com - I'm PattersonVanZant (note- I might've over-praised Gent Jack a bit, but that's how I felt at the time).
That rolos and bananas thing sounds really good.....now you have me thinking of banana splits...
damn you!
Blow something up this weekend.
