So you might want to consider that you are "some of the people all of the time" if you have friends who think this person is bad news. Just because they were idiots about something in the past doesn't mean they are now.
I don't know anyone involved in this so take that as a completely neutral opinion.
Marriage should be forever and not taken lightly (sigh yes a bit old fashioned about that) you shouldn't just blow off these people's opinion.
