Ah yes, V for Vendetta could not be more timely..... a true anti-fascist statement. Malcolm X roles over then rises to approve and speak to us. Others join him : Fred Hampton, Dorthory Phillips, Aldridge Cleaver, Huey Newton, Leslie Booker, Kathleen Cleaver, Tarika Lewis, Mario Savio...... nice to see your faces. Standing bravely with them are Spanish Revolutionary fighters. Camillo Berneri, Enriqueta Rovira, Margarita Nelkin, Katia Landau, Renee Lafont, Felicia Browne, Charlotte Haldane, Duchess of Atholl, Ellen Wilkinson, Sybil Thorndike and Federica Montseny Ma. The struggles, the places, the causes, the names and numbers are legion. The love, the passion, the spirit ring on and on and on, please rise and stand tall. It is time to stop running is fear.
aijin:
I went and saw the first showing at midnight on the IMAX screen. I really felt they overdid it- they had to drill the concept into the viewers head. I realized why afterwords where one of the kids I was with was STUNNED by the movie. The concept they present is new to some people. They had to make the point of the movie blindingly obvious to appeal to that naive viewer who swallows everything wholeheartedly that they are given. Unforunately I don't think the target audience was probobly reached. More of a preaching-to-the-choir... but if they caught the attention of one person per showing... well, that's quite a lot of people.
The part that resonated with me was the fact that once Evey was free, she rejected her vanity and kept her shaved head. She wanted to wake up every day and remember that note. Remember the suffering. Remember Valerie.
