Well traveling through those states going much slower than the cars is annoying (and in my opinion, dangerous) it isn't the worst driving scenario.
By far, the worst place to drive is Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, I cross the state all the time too. It is shocking to me that there are currently FOUR wrecked tractor-trailers lining the center median along I-80. Every year it is the same thing too. It's not uncommon for me to travel 100 miles during a snowstorm and not see a plow / salt-shaker. I have no clue where all the fucking money they collect from the turnpike goes to, but I can assure you that it ISN'T the road. The turnpike is I-76 (for the most part) and is a narrow, winding, mountainous road that is constantly under construction. Both I-80 and I-76 are extremely dangerous during winter conditions due to Pennsylvania's lack of proper maintenance.
Best roads to travel: New York Thruway, Florida Turnpike, I-70 is usually pretty good overall too. Texas highways have isolated problems, but is generally an easy ride as well.
