I got in a fight with a freind last night about some lifestyle choices and don't know if we will be hanging out anymore.

Children are easily impressionable, sometimes if you tell 'em "... you take after ______ ..." they get it in their heads that maybe they're supposed to act like this other person. Calling a child by this person's name may be something akin to an enabling mechanism.
