I LOVE this time of year!
Yesterday I went to get my hair cut. I go to this little dominican place around the corner from my office. And yesterday when I walked in (and after they all did their "what? A white girl?!" thing) I noticed that it was filled with little girls in curlers. And I remembered, that it's graduation season! These little girls were being done up like princesses for their big day! That shit just warms my crusty little heart!
I love to see the graduates walking in the streets with their caps and gowns. It reminds me of where I was in my life, each time I graduated from something.
I guess, most of the kids I see are graduating from high school....*sigh* I remember where I was when I graduated high school...
I was in love with, and engaged to, my high school sweetheart. I was living with a friend of mine because I wasn't welcome at home. I bought a skateboard for the first time and got lots of scrapes and loved it! I wrote to my love every day, since he was in rehab in Florida (he's still sober now though). I waited desperately for the few days we'd have together between his return and my flying off to Arizona for college.
Which then...began an entirely new adventure...
I dunno...seeing these graduates makes me kinda nostalgic...
It reminds me of the fear and excitement of being on the brink of something new. Of leaping off into the unknown...and all the hard lessons I've learned there.
It reminds me of all the lovely twists and turns our lives take and all the stuff I don't know yet.
In many ways, that's exactly what I'm feeling like right now. Ok, so I'm not graduating from my job...I'm quitting. But I guess I AM kinda graduating from this phase of my life. Leaping into the unknown...scared and excited...
I look into my future and see nothing but the drive out to Houston. This is the first time in my life I've ever acted without plans...y'know...long term plans. I don't have any! I'm gonna get out there, go to school, do my thing...and then who knows?! I wouldn't have thought that the 'not knowing' would feel so freeing. I guess I've learned a lot about faith in the past few years. And how none of the things I THOUGHT were a matter of life and death...were.
Anyway...yesterday I purchased my school boots. My steel toed, black leather doc martens with the padding around the ankle in case I feel like dropping shit on myself...
As always...I had trouble finding them in chick sizes...so I ordered them directly from the company.
Today I'm skipping the bar (i KNOW, can you believe it! don't worry, i'll be back tomorrow!) to go home and start organizing my apt for packing. No seriously, I AM! Stop laughing!!!

I fell off my chair in surprise and then laughter!
I hate not knowing. I like plans. SOME kind of loose plan at least. And you've got the bases covered that I'd want covered.
