I apparently have very good taste in men.
Even when they're only 12 years old...which was about the last time I saw Patrick, my sleep away camp boyfriend and first love.
Val and I twittered like little school girls when he called to let us know he'd be arriving at the bar in five minutes. He strolled in, all tall and handsome, like a ray of sunshine. (i'm pretty sure there were angels singing too)
We all hugged and he ordered a Guinness...and by then, I was already in love.
He's writing for the New York Post now...he even had the cover story yesterday about the helicopter that crashed.
He and Val did most of the talking at first, since they're both involved with politics (val just graduated from law school). I sat quietly like a fucking stupid bump on a log.
When he got up to go to the bathroom Valerie tells me that she thinks he likes me. I, on the other hand, think that he likes HER (since they have been doing most of the talking...).
By the time he returned to the table we'd agreed that Pat and I will get back together for the next two months and have a wonderfully passionate and torrid love afair. Then, when I move away to Texas, both Val and Pat will be so heartbroken they'll lean on each other for consolement. Which is when THEY will fall in love and have an affair of their own.
I WAS able to get a little flirting in there and when Valerie made the mistake of saying that she didn't like animals...I saw my opening and Patrick and I got to talk about our cats. (who would have thought that having cats would actually turn out to be a tool for flirting?)
Anyway, Valerie is some sort of pansy and wanted to leave, even though I stated that I could stay there drinking 'til 4AM...we were all out the door by 9:30
Patrick pulls out a pack of cigarettes and Valerie grubs one...and I admit...I had one too. It was just like the old days, although this time we weren't hiding out behind the junior girls bunk smoking...we were strolling down 8th avenue...
He gave us both a ride home and said that I should get his number from Val so we could go out and get drinks. I said I would (oh my goodness, stomach doing flips!) and said good night.
Valerie and I did some more twittering after he drove off, then we said goodnight too.
I walked into my building to be handed a summons because of some money I owe. I can't afford to pay them...I can't afford a lawyer...I can hardly afford to scrape together the $200 to pay those ghetto 'we the people' people to file my bankrupcy papers...but that's what it looks like is going to happen.
Threw the papers aside, made myself a drink, and left a message on the greasers voice mail about how surreal it is to see people after so many years.
Eventually passed out...and I'm pretty sure I dreampt about Patrick...which was nice for a change.
