Its been a big week for voting here in New Zealand first with the happy return of Fiji to full democratic status and the end of all sanctions and travel bans, then the heavy disappointment as my Scottish friends and colleagues watched independence slip way in a referendum they could not vote in and finally today New Zealand's own General election which saw the largest support in New Zealand history for a party to win a third term in office. There are a a lot of people that may be unhappy with the results of these events but the one thing I am happy about is that people are waking up and using their voices and actually voting. In the past decade I have seen much apathy from people who believe that their votes don't matter because who they vote for may not win. I am hopeful that this in my own country at least is changing and people will see that the simple act of voting means their voice is still heard and that no matter who wins they will be listening.
