I'm so sorry to read about your grandmother and the hard times you, she and your family are going through. It's heart-breaking, life is so hard at times. I wish I could send you all some strength and peace. It sounds like you are close to her and have lots of memories from before she became ill, I think you have to keep them in your mind. I lost my grandfather recently and it's been so painful but I'm so thankful for all the good memories and that he didn't have to suffer for long. When I worked in the hospital I spent a lot of time with people who were suffering from Alzheimer's and it was so hard for their families but there was a tiny comfort in the fact that a lot of the time, they themselves were in a different place, if that makes sense? Of course there were hard times when they were confused and upset but a lot of the time I noticed that in the right kind of calm environment many people suffering that awful disease could be quite at peace and most of the nurses I worked with were so kind and understanding. I really enjoying being with those patients and trying to help them feel calm. I'm sorry, I don't know if it's useful or not to share these things, it's all very hard to explain as well. I really hope she'll find some peace there when she settles in and that she wont have to suffer. You write really wonderfully of your experiences xxx
