What a week!
Whew! Swamped at work. Pitfalls everywhere. Worked hard, slept 14 hours last night.

but we both went to the same high school and graduated the same year.
Back at work and working hard. I miss Ann Arbor. It's such a wonderful combination of small, intellectually charged, full of dives, and relaxing. I should find a way to move there. Work, ugh!

Art fair was wonderful. Fun and not as many people as I'd remembered...! Ann Arbor is still the greatest place on earth. Alas...

yes, bree is totally hot. and i'm diggin the converse.
i think the only part of me that is evolving this summer is my ability as a photographer. i really haven't read enough for school.
But I am having fun. And, starting next week, I'm going to read much more.
What you mentioned is one of the many huge dillemmas that anthropologists face. If I had to do it over again, I'm not sure if I would have chosen to be an anthropologist--maybe I would have, but I can't be sure. Until the past few decades, ethnography was seen as a somewhat objective method of social science with the aim of capturing a slice of reality. In the 80's, with the postmodernist influence on anthropology, many scholars had a crisis, worrying that they shouldn't speak for others, and concluded that the work they did in anthropology was closer to fiction than science.
I've decided that the best way to go about it is to try to genuinely try to be influenced by the lessons of critical postmodernism, but not to be completely crippled by this crisis. I think we should know that we can never completely accurately represent others, but, nevertheless, we should continually strive for more accurate representations.
tell us more about the art fair!

Off to Ann Arbor in but 48 hours...
first time since 1999 and second time since God knows when.
alas, I can't get some candy and have a bagel at Drakes, but I can re-visit the "original" (yes the one and only) Borders, where I spent an errant youth before it was a chain, financed by (yup) Kmart venture capital. Will the Slug (Brown Jug)...

I just saw Casablanca the other night......very cool flick. Hope all is well in DC.

I don't get on SG much anymore... work and motherhood seem to take up most of my time so I'm sorry not to have responded sooner.
I am about 3 hours south of Seattle... just outside of Portland, OR actually. As for golf, I don't play but I've been a golf widow for the last six years and have become a big fan of the game.
The crush... unfortunately the crush is a far cry from an intellectual. We were chatting and he didn't understand some of the words I was using...
So I'm already over the excitement part of it now. I could never have any true feelings for someone I don't respect. It sounds horrid, but I have to be honest with myself before I can expect to find happiness right?
No amount of looks or sex appeal can make up for a lack of wit, charm, and intellect. The sexiest thing a man can do is challenge me mentally...

I love the summer.
Every summer. The long days. The thunderstorms. The feeling you get when you come in from outside and the air conditioning is on full blast. All that you can do, even if it is like a greenhouse out.
