Well, another year older, and surprise surprise I don't feel any different. Perhaps more concerning though is the big three-oh is in sight now, and it doesn't look good.
There was a time once when I thought that adults reached a threshold, where they they find their place, some kind of meaning in their lives, some kind of marked achievement which could satisfy the necessity of living.
In real terms now I can see that threshold is really what some people call the midlife crisis. Where you rediscover your dreams, and either embrace them or bury them before the last of the time has gone.
I like to think however that I've never abandoned my dreams, and although some may be gathering some dust, I do still look at them on the shelf, like old friends, and they'll never be packed away or flogged off cheaply in a car boot sale.
One must either live in a state of perpetual hope or perpetual despair, and anything in between is veritable lunacy. I choose to hope, and I feel regret for the many people who do not realise how simple that choice is.
But enough of the armchair philosophy, I have dinner to cook, and Angel will be on soon...
