I thought you were
A flower
You thought you were
A shadow
I thought you were
A diamond
You thought you were
A coal chute
I thought you were
A dancer
You thought you were
A cripple
I thought you were
A scholar
You thought you were
The village idiot
We played this stupid game
Back and forth
For several
Tempestuous years
I would put you
On a pedestal
While you cried
And hugged yourself
In a corner
I would write songs for you
And you would dismiss them
One by one
Finally
I had to give up
But still belive
These testimonies…
