Kayak Poem
(copyright 2025 by Michael Walker)
I take my kayak
To the
Lake
Early morning
Headed
For the dam…
A silver mist
Rises up
Over everything
Cattle offstage
Lowing…
I dip my paddle
Into the
Placid water
Relishing this time
Before
The speed boats
And the skiers…
Overhead
One monument
A dead log
Stuck high
In the fork of a tree
From some winter
When they flood
This place
I marvel at this
As I always do
And keep on
Rowing…
