Moon Rock

I remember
When they brought a moon rock
To Newark Ohio
A tiny bit of regolith
Captured
By Neil and Buzz
They brought that “miracle”
To the
Newark Advocate
Our downtown
Newspaper
There was a line
All the way around the block
To see this chip
Enclosed
In a square of plexiglass
A pebble
Like any other
On our Licking River
An interminable tour
Of the offices
The presses
Before that
Great
Unveiling
“Isn't that something?”
I remember my father said
As we finally stood
Before the millions we spent
To get there
A pebble
Like any other
Flanked by two
Inscrutable
Marines…
