So my mother is obsessed with this version of Amazing Grace sung in the Cherokee language. (Her grandmother was 100% cherokee)


I will admit it is pretty...but...
it seems a little ironic to me to have an indigenous people singing a song that was written by the people who took their lands, destroyed their entire way of life, and pretty much doomed them to an existence of poverty on "reservations".

Now she has my aunt (who is not even Cherokee. She has a different father than my mother and that is where it comes from) posting the song on Facebook, and my extended family (who are MORE Cherokee because they are from my grandfather's side) commenting on how beautiful it is...

I guess ignorance is bliss.
