So my mom, and my girlfriend, both work for FISH Inc.
It's a local homeless shelter. My mom is like, 2nd in command.
Every year they have a toy drive and give out toys to needy families.
It's a good and bad thing sometimes...
Good because 90% of the families are thankful. 5% are families that can't afford to buy their kids Christmas presents...then show up in $40,000 cars to pick up their toys...
and 5% are just assholes...
So yesterday Christine and I went to help bag up toys for people to pick up.
We had planned on showing up at 10am, and leaving around 2pm.
We ended up showing up at 11am...and leaving at 6pm. 7 hours of packing toys. Haha.
Felt good to help, but destroyed my back. Eh. I'll live.
One woman showed up after her appointment, and was asked to come back later. If you're late, they move on and you can come back. Not a hard concept.
She cops an attitude and starts all kinds of shit, so my mother tells her to drop the attitude and back it down a notch. Keep in mind...my mom is doing all this..working 12 hour days to make sure these people have a happy Christmas ALL while dealing with the fact that her father died 2 weeks ago...so she's a little on edge...
Well, the bitch calls my mom's boss to complain about a woman with an attitude problem at the toy drive who told her to "shut up."
Her boss took no stock in what the woman said...at all...but it still pissed my mom off.
That was...fun.
Then another woman came back to complain that two full LARGE (we're talking like 50 gallon) trash bags of toys were not enough for her 3 kids....and that she didn't get gift cards (everyone did).
The problem was, she had two boys....and she was lumping all the gifts onto one kid...and not the other. She didn't stop to think that 2 boys who were 2 years apart would BOTH play with a football, or soccer ball.
She also didn't realize that not everyone gets what they asked for. FISH doesn't go out and shop. It's ALL donations. So if no Wii games or Gameboys were donated...guess what happens?
You don't get Wii games or a Gameboy. Sorry.
Either way, it was nice to help out. We got all their orders for Thursday done, so all they had to do was hand them out. Came home, ordered pizza and watched some Bones on Netflix.
It was a good use of a day.
I also got a call yesterday that my Uncle is in the hospital...again...and they might have to put him into a coma...again...to fight another infection...again...
so Christmas is postponed...again.
I don't know how he deals with all his health issues. I can't even imagine how much it sucks...and I really do take my health for granted. Another reason I need to get my fat ass into shape...so I can NOT develop diseases that will do shit like that to me when I am older.
It sucks that my Uncle is sick, but at the same time...it makes life a little easier. Christine and I had 3 Christmas' to go to that day...and now that is down to 2...
Much easier.
I just hope Uncle Rick gets better without having to be put into a coma again. That can't be fun..or good for him.
