it's been a bittersweet week as I look back.
I started off Sunday with my younger sister coming out to visit. it was good in many ways. we talked and chatted and hung out and walked around the area Outlet Mall and I showed her the campus. I lost my sunglasses, but no big deal to me.
On Tuesday, I recieved the unofficial word that I was accepted into Graduate School. I will be attending Roberts Wesleyan College in the Fall of 2005 for a Masters in School Counseling. I am transferring in 1 year of credits from my previous Masters degree, resulting in me completing a program that normally takes 2 1/2 years in 1 1/2 year.
then I found out the work out room where I went to work out and de-stress is locked. I think the person running summer programs here panics too much.
but I got a lot of work done at my job. I completed the first draft of three 18" by 20 " posters for the Office, as well as 4 advertising flyers for RA recruitment. so this was cool.
and then today I found out that one of my favorite professors at Alfred died. Dr. Gail Walker was a Psychology professor there. she also helped me re-discover my love for the field when I took her Intro to Psychology class. she was someone that would talk to you if you needed to, and made you feel comfortable. she also was a grief counselor and crisis debriefer (as she put it, she helps make sure the EMT's and Police and Firemen can do their jobs by talking to them afterwards, so they are there when she needs them). she was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer in 2002. she made it to graduation three weeks ago, and was teaching classes as much as she could.
truly a special woman who will be missed.
thankfully, I found something she wrote when she first found out she was sick.
Sunrise and Moonset: Reflections of Dealing with Terminal Illness
I know that she accomplished the old Native American proverb "When you are born, the world laughs and you cry. You want to live your life in such a way that when you die, you laugh and the world cries." I believe there are tears throughout the world tonight.
