wow, just realizing what the past year has brought for me. I was about 4 months into a new job, with my step-father retiring and my mom getting bi-lateral (both) knee replacement surgery. it was also the time I felt I needed to move to my own apartment. so in one week's time, there was the retirement, surgery, my mom being discharged and me moving to my apartment. its almost surreal.
since I moved out, I have expanded a little of what I do. I play "Geeks Who Drink" every other Wednesday on a team with my cousin. I rotate with 2 other people hosting a "Heroclix" night every Friday. and Saturdays I go to my cousin's comic book store for a "Learn Heroclix" thing. basically its an opportunity for new people to come and learn the game (I do this with 1 other player who is quite impressive as well). right now, we have a 7th grader who started playing in May who has come a long way. the best part....his mom, dad, and younger brother will all play the game together. right now, the biggest thing is getting him to have fun.
so yeah, definitely a whirl wind in some ways. other things have included actually taking a vacation (or 2). I went to Albany, NY for a few days (got there on a Sunday, returned home on a Wednesday) and Pittsburgh, PA to catch up with an old friend I hadn't seen in over 10 years. it was interesting when I met his sister-in-law, who asked how long we've known each other. w e looked at her and went "Kindergarten?" and he said "No, I think we met before then." yeah....we've been friends a long time! also saw the state capital, a bunch of memorials, and the Carnegie Museum.
so I wonder what this next year will bring. hopefully more vacations (I want to go to Washington, DC to see the Holocaust museum). ideally a relationship would be nice. my cousin's girlfriend started the process of fixing me up with her old boss....until said boss kind of disappeared. my cousin was "Looks like you dodged a bullet," and I was "Thank to your girlfriend firing one at me!" who knows, its been about 10 years (or more) since a relationship. one would be nice, but I've also been told since I've been single so long, people won't want to date me. yeah....I've been told I won't find a relationship because I haven't been in one so long....but the only way to get in one is to find a relationship. just the words someone with Nihilistic tendencies loves to hear.
hmmm, what else? well, not too much. kind of odd to look at my job as more of a career. as a job I plan on retiring from. because, well, job searching sucks. especially at my age. outside of the vacation or 2, who knows. I've seen some bands (saw Rush and Alice in Chains) and would like to see some more. plus still waiting for GWAR to come around (my Mom has promised to go see them....yes, I will spend the extra if I need to for meet and greets....come on, who doesn't want a picture of their Mom with GWAR?). and go from there.
