so buying a new TV for the house...looking at a 55 inch LCD flatscreen, high definition.....you know, the "new" stuff that is out there. old TV is a 35 inch screen CRT (you know...the big boxy ones) from about a decade or so ago.

not my money, not complaining. asked if I wanted the old, big screen, declined....I simply have no room for it.

so instead, my step-father is going to check with the nursing home his father is in. they have a small TV in their common room. if the nursing homes wants the TV, its theirs. this way, we know it goes to a good cause.

and yeah....he's one of the odd children who made the decision with his father to put him in a nursing home (age 92 with Parkinsons Disease) and visits his father almost daily. at the least, he gets out of work at 10:30 AM, does some errands, then drives over to have lunch with his father. and spends Saturday watching Syracuse football (his father is a big Syracuse Basketball/Football fan) with his father. and during Basketball season, will re-arrange his schedule to watch the games with his father. so yup.....my step-father's father is in a nursing home...and visited quite often. and from what I hear....that's not the norm.... eeek

kind of sad, if you ask me. when did we, as a society, view our elderly, disabled, and those who are sick as a person to be warehoused away instead of kept as part of the family?

We stopped giving a fuck about our elderly a long time ago.

What mydogfarted said. This society is all about $$$ and they value life on what you can produce monetarily. Is it sick? Yes.

You can ask friends if they have TVs that they need to get rid of. Chances are, you'll know someone who knows someone. That's how we got ours.
