so subbed yesterday not too bad....it was a 6th grade class I previously subbed for, so I had a good feel for the kids. in fact, many remembered me. four classes of the same thing basically.
and it was an interesting experience.....

snafus along the way....
1. the sub on Wednesday turned off the computer. now, the lesson plan for Thursday clearly stated that the video was on the computer and ready to play. guess the sub didn't read that, since I had to get someone to log me onto the network and then find the video. good thing I got there early, huh?
2. 2nd class no problem. but I notice that the packets are kind of low....huh? find out....the third and fourth class, because they worked through their work on Wednesday so fast, the sub gave them the packets to do on Thursday to do on Wednesday. yes! so here's me, going "Um, how do I fill 15 minutes or so, since the person yesterday covered what I was going to do today!" what fun, let me tell you. I ended up have a quick discussion, asking some questions and trying to get the kids to talk. we're talking about cells....there was about 3 people who constantly talked, I tried getting others involved.
3. final class of the day. oh, wait....FIRE DRILL scheduled. how mean! thankfully we got through the video. got outside, and everything was great (the class lined up and everything). discovered....that school's principal does not mess around. we're lined up, everything is good, and then I hear "Everyone is to face forward and be quiet....NOW!" I was "Damn this guy is serious!"
we get back in, about 5 minutes left. so quick chat "How do you think you did on the fire drill?" the class asks to leave early, and here's me going "Um, that is a reward for good behavior, right?" I ask "Did I have to talk to anyone today?" one kid admitted that I had to talk to him five times. in a 1/2 hour time period. so no, did not let them leave early. I did have the students go "But you're a nice sub, and that's what a nice sub would do." I responded "Who said I was a nice sub? I'm not paid to be a nice sub, I'm paid to be a sub period." that caught them off guard.
so a fun day. the previous day, the A/C for the school was broken. let's see...3rd floor and hottest day this year (about 90 F, or 32.2 C). glad I was subbing that day.
got done, cleaned up the room and left...yay.
