well, my taxes are done. since I made so little (less than $20,000), I got to do a free on-line filing. at least for the Federal taxes. I ended up having to pay state taxes.....that return will go in, oh, say, April 1st. I'm not surprised, though.
unfortunately, it seems, in New York, when you work for education, the amount taken out for retirement is taken out before taxes. however, New York State still taxes you on this amount. because of this, I end up paying state taxes. it happened the 3 years I worked in the SUNY System. so I'm guessing as long as I work in education, it will happen.
well, ideally though, when I start working in education, I start paying back my student loans, which reduces my amount in taxes.
oh well....guess we have to pay for New York City somehow! after all, I don't get a tax credit on my state taxes for being a resident of Rochester, NY. but you do if you're a resident of New York City....anyone else know of another city in the United States that does that?
