plus the other counselor and I finally sat down with the Principal and hammered out some things of what I'll be doing and not doing.
so basically I won't be doing college applications and transcripts.
but I'll be doing the ninth grade "Dream Career" essays.
I have three 8:1:1 students I meet with. one, today, I spent a half hour where his communication with me (a few times only) were head nods. he doesn't like new people. I can tell.
tomorrow, more kids....plus working with a girl on getting her in the right math class.
all I can say is ....
this girl is in the 10th grade, just moved up from Florida....her math teacher has noted her difficulties in the following areas:
Division
Multiplication
Decimals.
gee, why is she failing Algebra? does Florida have a math curriculum? or is all their time spent going "In case of a Hurricane, here's how to survive?"
seriously.
outside of that, met "she bitch". the Principal brought up a student who was not doing so great in her classes. so I asked all of her teachers for feedback on how she was doing. one teacher said how she came up from the elementary school with these kids, and any IEP 8th grader, I was to pass by her first. gee, if that was the case, why didn't the Principal tell me this? or is this a case of a special education teacher trying to inflate her position? so now, she is known as "she bitch" in my head!
yeah, that's about it...found out that one other person interviewed....I beat out an old classmate of mine for the job! go me!
hopefully more to come on Sunday when I have more than 2 1/2 hours to do things at home!
