Two new reviews
I saw two movies in the theatre this weekend .. one I really enjoyed, and one was quite disappointing.
On Friday, I saw the beautiful "Superman Returns" .. It was quite clear that director Bryan Singer has seen the 1977 "Superman" dozens of times, and loves the series ...
The movie has some of the most beautiful imagery I have seen in recent movies (Russian Ark might be more beautiful, as well as the stunning cars) .. There may have been a little too little Clark Kent, and a very odd Lex Luthor plot, but I really enjoyed it ***1/2
Pirates of the Caribbean 2 was quite dissapointing to me ... ** ... I found it quite boring, poorly written, and overblown ... The whole Davy Jones plot didn't really work for me ... I also think Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom aren't great actors ... Knightley has been OK in Love Actually and Bend It Like Beckham, but dreadful in King Arthur .. Bloom was fine as an elf, but can't lead a movie ...
Johnny Depp had lots of fun as Jack Sparrow but the movie really dragged to me (looked at my watch about 5 times) ... I also only thought the original pirates was so-so.
Had a brilliant day at Ferry Beach Camp, seeing my old minister from NYC, and having a great day on the beach (although too much sun especially for the wife) ..

Not much on the opera scene at this time, I am busy with preperations for "Capuleti e i Montecchi" = "The Capulets and Montagues" ... Romeo and Juliet....
Otherwise I'm trying to get rid of one REALLY nasty flu that some of my friends brought back from Nigeria, nasty fucker. Otherwise I keep mself busy with concerts here and there, to make ends meet!
