I just might have it folks. How hard is it to get a mortgage?

It's hard to explain, but this is the best I can do.

Just responding to the novel thing. Sounds like then the story would be more to do with the vagaries of immortality, anachronism and being able to accept change, rather than vampirism specifically? You might get more mileage perhaps by inventing a monster/curse/disease/whatever that's more original than the vampire thing (both classic or post-modern)? Or at least put a new spin on the vampire thing somehow? I guess the danger will be in not letting the story become an endless technology or fashion catalogue, but to weave a story that highlights the clash of old vs. new in the context of each situation?
