We all know that the news is designed to make you fearful, pessimistic and cynical, but I’ve got insomnia again so I’m coming up with observations.
The world is in a bad way - yes. A lot of people aren’t getting justice.
But here is a statistic that will a) make you feel that bit more optimistic, and b) hopefully inspire you to find consistent and reliable information.
51% of Africans feel they can talk openly and challenge corruption in their country.
That makes me feel 😌 because I expected it to be much worse.
That’s because the news tends to nuance their stories in such a way as to manipulate those stories. It’s like telling a blind child the sky is orange. They’re not necessarily lying (though sometimes they are), they’re just presenting it in a certain way.
Now get back in the cupboard!
