After working at a major party supply store, that I wish to not mention, for 12 years, celebrating any holiday has become rather unbearable. Particularly Halloween. I used to cringe whenever heard "Monster Mash" or any other themed song. The smell of candy corn made me want to vomit. The thought of walking through a haunted house made crazier than Norman Bates. Yes Mother, I'll teach all these fools what scary really is. It's dealing with drunk ass fuckers the last Saturday before Halloween who want to kick your ass for not returning their used, shit stained costume. The parents who waited until the last minute to get their kids the most popular sold out costume and suddenly you're the reason why their kids are going to have a horrible Halloween. The shoplifter who wants to accuse you of being racist. The list goes on. Alas, though, it has been 3 Halloweens since my last walk through Hell. My girlfriend decorated the house, and rather than have a panic attack, I actually welcomed it. Although, I am quite surprised how much shit she can fit in 2 boxes. The bright side here, is I'm finally letting go of this apprehension. I even bought a few decorations. I don't get jittery at the thought of children coming to the door with their grubby little hands outstretched with their bags and pillowcases. Yes, this year will be a better Halloween. Not good, but better. But, candy corn still makes me want to vomit. That shit is nasty.
