This is the opening of a story that I wrote a year or so ago. It was perfected by my friend (and hopefully my future girlfriend) Mandy. It turned out well.

Burning embers glow in the dimly lit booth, where a man sits alone, in content. The club is full to capacity; everyone has come to hear the sweet melodies that are flowing tonight. Tables are sprawled out over the large establishment, each one filled with nameless faces. Each face is as indistinct as the last. Back at his booth, the man watches the performance. He lifts his cigarette from the ashtray, dropping ashes onto his black shirt. After he places it between his lips, he brushes the ashes off of his shirt, down to his khakis and to the floor. Inward breaths guide the smoke into his lungs. His hand moves back up to the cigarette, and he places it between his pinky and ring finger to be held. Leaning forward on the table, he looks over the rim of his dark tinted glasses and gazes at the beauty on stage once more. She has such beauty that as she sings, the aura of the crowd surrounds her. Her statuesque and slightly filled form being engulfed by the sheer serenity and loveliness of her voice. "Strangers in the night" is the song being performed, but the person that she is singing to is no stranger. As she continues to sing to the man in the booth, another man comes to his side and whispers into his ear. After a brief encounter, they nod and both stand up. The man from the booth looks at the beauty on stage, completely encompassing her with the gaze from his golden eyes; he nods to her and cracks a smile in her direction. She looks back at him and slowly bows to him as both men fade into the darkness.
