Do you ever get that feeling you're being watched by the people you're watching as they watch other watchers watching their watch?
Lyrical goodness today comes from The Twilight Singers:
Twilight
when darkness falls
on Summer's end
so in your absence
i shall begin
when Darkness falls the race iz done
and Love lives not
when Hope is gone
goodbye, sufer
everything's gonna be alright...
the longest night of every year
i spent beside you, baby
do you remember anything about me?
i was the one when Hope was gone
who took too long to sing this song
everything's gonna be alright...
when darkness falls
on Summer's end
so in your absence
i shall begin
when Darkness falls
the race iz through
everything's gonna be alright . . .
Gregg Dulli is the motherfucking SHIT. His music is just incredible. I was able to check the ex-frontman of The Afghan Whigs play a crowded house at the NorthStar Bar here in Philly last night. I almost didnt go...my two month whirlwind party atmosphere and general happiness came to a screeching halt last night. A mixture of Detoxification from alcohol, bad memories, and an emotional film all took their toll on me, and I paid up in full. It took me nealy 6 hours to convince myself to walk down to the Twilight Singers show, a mere 6 blocks away from my house. It was like pulling teeth...and to make matters worse, I was on the guest list!
Anyway, it was a fucking brilliant show. Gregg still shows his audience a good time. Played all of the popular TS songs, starting with one of my favs from the new album, Decatur. The final bits of the night were filled with Afghan Whigs songs (mostly from 1965) and he even overlayed the lyrics from 'Retarded' over The Bird Sings'. Goddamn, it was cool!
Up next on the gig whore's master list is Southern Culture on the Skids. Don Caballero might be nixed for tonight...too much money spending. I also might miss out on The Wrens tomorrow. Too much to do, too little money!
