“Leave it, Watson. Snitch got street justified.” – Sherlock Holmes

Ok, that might not be an exact quote, but the sentiment is there. This is my favorite Sherlock Holmes classic and I made too loud of a noise when I saw it recreated in wax at the Sherlock Holmes Museum.

The dude, Charles Augustus Milverton, was a known blackmailer (and based on a real-life dude!)

this looks awesome

I was working on a comment to a @chef blog about immigration and it rambled so much I decided to write it up my own post.

I am white, male, born in the US and was raised with skills that proved an advantage to a valuable career. However, I HAVE lost a job to an immigrant before. And you know what? If he could truly...

@mephrael Hrm, kinda sounds like the foothills of California. Like 10 - 20 years ago I was aware of racism there, but it's was essentially toothless. Now that the global climate has gotten serious again...

that's awesome, way to be adventurous! And yeah, I can't fathom the amount of blind hatred about the "other" I see around me every day, I almost think that those who froth at the mouth spewing their racism aren't even human... :(

Had some trouble deciding on the topic for my first real blog post in a while. Pictures are few since I basically stopped snapping pics when I stopped writing about what I was doing.

I suppose the major thing was celebrating my 20th last year. We decided to revisit the route in Ireland we did on our honeymoon. I call it Honeymoon 2.0 because it’s...

Holy baby face!

Also, late congrats!

I need a spark.

Since I last blogged, I’ve cut social media almost completely out of my life. Friends ask me why and I’ve been answering, "I don’t like having my mind manipulated like that."

But something has been missing the past several months– everything feels somewhat bland. It could be that I’m not as excited with my work, that my creative outlets are at...

Worked a cyber-security conference with a female colleague in So Cal who I don’t know that well (in beautiful Riverside, CA, which is a whole other story.) I took a call, and while I was walking back, saw her talking amiably with an older gentleman. I didn’t think much of it and wandered around talking to other booth-folk and then I saw it.

He laughed

One thing about Dad – he’s one of the gentlest, nicest people you will ever meet. That’s why, it’s hilariously shocking to see his analysis of a game I sent him (in which I thought I was soooo clever.) He opens with ‘The Philidor Defense, by the French composer of the 18th century and the best chess player of the time.’ But starts in with...

If white is moving south, then I can see it.

@wizard0 White is, indeed, moving south. :) Bonus: Spain may not have been the one to discover America if King Ferdinand didn't see the solution : https://www.chess.com/blog/batgirl/the-discovery-of-america

Just to be clear - not a *member* of Wu Tang .. it's a track with Method Man, Redman, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon & Masta Killah.

Repeat: Wu Tang Clan's new track.

A friend of a friend had never been wine tasting, so I got roped into doing that last weekend. It’s hard to complain about it when you’re basically drinking great free wine all day. In line, I apologized for holding up the line chatting with the wine-pourer who was a retired geology professor (which was fascinating.) A girl said she understood because she had already...

Always interesting blogs.  Yeah, I'm with you on letting drug companies waste money advertising to people who can't actually buy their products without a prescription.  Makes no rational sense.

Wife has always wanted a garden, so I hooked her up with this pre-fab frame and a bunch of soil. Some friends donated some baby plants from their garden and it’s coming along nicely.

I kinda want to steal that big ol strawberry and blame it on the squirrel.

Father-in-law’s visit is over but the weirdness is still resonating. It’s one of those situations where,

I love that planter box, and would you recommend eye surgery?
griffxx:
@chef The teddy bear was a total surprise. If I known that was a thing, I would have brought in like five stuffed monkeys. @littlejohn22 If your glasses or contacts are really annoying you, then yeah I would. The healing process is going to take weeks to fully finish but already it feels magical to not have to worry about my vision 'falling off my head' or 'out my eyeball'

If I have to take a call near Embarcadero, I usually hang by this old Hills Bros statue and think about coffee.

Got my frame-able certificate in the mail, debating on whether to actually put it on the wall since it feels weird to do something like that. I’ll do a quick summary of all the noteworthy things that have happened lately.

I’m getting Lasik

Omg, we just unsubscribed from a package that has GOT on it... we are missing the last 4 episodes... no spoilers...

It angers me so much that the show is ahead of the books.  I picked the series up with the first book, and it seems I've been waiting ever since.

I got dinner solo and popped into the nearby Sacramento Irish Pub. It was trivia night and, as usual, I glommed on to the end of the bar with a geeky girl that I connected with immediately. As it turns out, she was stood up for a date (BOO! Whoever did that BOOOO!) and I helped her with some answers. We talked about school, jobs...
