I'm quite close to having what I need, all arranged in my head. I see how it all fits together... now, can I get it out and use it under pressure.
Crunch time.
Warning, a small rant follows. I don't think anyone who needs to read this will be reading it here, so I apologize for "preaching to the choir".
So, I was thinking today, about the nature of cynicism. I have been watching people recently, somewhere in this "neighborhood" we share- a couple of places (threads) around here, actually. Specifically, Silliness- although that's as specific as I am going to get.
When you see something online, there's generally the tendency to wonder... "but is it real?"
It's so easy to fabricate things. Anyone with sense knows that.
It's also true that this does not mean that any given instance of what you see is fake. There's lots of truth around, as well.
So, when you see a particular item, is not it wise to weigh the cost of belief ?
And even if you don't believe, and belief does not harm those who do believe... who appointed you the watchdog of reality? Because... what if you are wrong?
I get the sense about some people that they enjoy attacking for attack's sake. Because they have to show how clever they are... that they can't be fooled. And this, I suppose makes them feel as if they are better than others...
Well, last I checked, good will and thoughtfulness were renewable resources. It's not as if you have a finite amount of kindness and decency that can be used up!
If you truly don't belief a certain thing took place, and yet the belief in that thing will harm no one if it did not- and the kind words and good thoughts put forth just might help someone if you are wrong... shouldn't maybe, you just be quiet?
And I assure you, most of us are quite clever enough to make up our own minds.
I guess my point is, perhaps sometimes it is better to err on the side of humanity.
Sometimes.
And then again, perhaps you are not erring, at all...
End of rant.
Answer from last time:
Hmmm, well, how would I make a song about 86? Because 86 has been my favorite number as long as I can remember. (before 1986, even!)
There's nothing intrinsically special about 86... I mean, you take an 8, you take a 6... and there you go.
It's twice 43... no, that's nothing to work with, really.
To 86 something is to get rid of it, in 1930's hard-boiled slang... hmmm. It was Maxwell Smart's secret agent number (I loved the old series... and I'm not really interested in seeing the new movie, Anne Hathaway notwithstanding).
No, I'm still not feeling a song coming on.
I could get cute... "One Hundred Less a Lucky Number" (100-14 = 86). It would be an instrumental piece, I think. Something jazzy. And action-y.
There, done. Pity I'm not a composer or I'd go write it now. ![]()
Oh- this time's question:
What's your favorite smell? (Or a couple of them)
