Henhouse, continued

By the time I hit the door, they must have been finished with most of their little "motivational talk" for everyone else, because they were ready for me- or so they thought.

The thin one almost greeted me at the door- almost. But he wasn't the one that spoke. That would be the fat one.

"If you'd come into the conference room, we're having a meeting that we'd very much like you to attend..." He spoke, with the air of one who's used to being obeyed. A little too much used, for my taste.

"Does the old man know about this?" I asked, not skipping a beat. My heart was skipping enough of those that there was no need for my patter to do so as well.

The thin one paused a minute, and made a look like he had something rather foul in his mouth. He spit it out, in a slow and distasteful stream, "Noooo, not...."

I looked him square in the eyes. "Not interested.", and then I walked square between them down the hall. That was me, one big square. I smiled at the scared collection of faces in the conference room, and walked on past.

My door didn't shut too hard when I closed it- only hard enough to shift the picture that hung on the wall next to it, not making quite enough noise to break windows, or kill anyone.

I had maybe another few minutes while they dealt with explaining the unique phenomenom of someone who didn't sit, and listen, and nod, to those that did. At the moment, I had precisely no idea what to do with that time.
