My Xmas was good (hope yours was as well)....
The big part of Xmas, to me at least, is kids.....anything beyond that is gravy. So I put CJ to bed Xmas eve...after we had set out cookies and milk (hope Santa aint lactose intolerant) and carrots for the reindeer, and then tucked him in tight. His excitement was palpable, and I shared it, even though the secrets are known.
Once he was good and asleep, I filled his stocking with all the goodies I get every year.... cashews (his fave), candies, gum, Rocher candies (our fave), new markers and pencils, and other art making doodads, and a really cool battery powered toothbrush, complete with Spider-Man toothpaste (long standing tradition dating back to my own mom).
I then set the gifts out that "Santa got" and arrainged the ones "Dad got" with them, ate a few of the cookies, drank the milk....making sure to leave crumbs and just enough milk in the glass to show that Santa was there....then took one of the carrots and chewed at it in the way I'd imagine a reindeer would (put the rest back in the fridge....I just ate all those cookies and drank all that milk... I got no room for NINE carrots....) and left these for him to find come morning....
At 6:30 I was awakened by an incredibly excited 7 year old, with his stuffed dog Woodchip in tow, "Daddy! Daddy! Get up! Its Christmas!!!!"
I then sat and shared his joy at the magic of Santa, as he ran from gift to gift, wrapping paper flew like confetti, and his glee with each next gift got larger and larger.
This, to me, is what Christmas morning is all about. I probably only have, at best, a couple of more years of this, before he is in on to the Santa Conspiracy.
I'll miss it when its gone.
