On the what happened in NZ tip......Well we had a mutual friend commit suicide 1 week into the stay. Luckiily the tickets to get back were 200 bux for the change since she was watching Kim's dog. I have a credit at blanket bay and when I go back in march I can use that.

My best friend and her husband lived in the barrio section of Austin for three years. They said it was the friendliest, most laid-back place they've ever lived. (And they're in Portland, OR now, so that's saying something!)
They're so bohemian that even their cat is black, and they loved it.
Oh, and the pot...sheesh, it's great!
mostly kinda expensive but central to everything great (downtown, SOCO, barton springs/zilker park/ alamo drafthouse south, etc) plus tons of local coffee houses, shopping, outdoor music venues up and down south first ave. plus lots of trees, great houses, neighborhood groceries, etc.
erm, sorry. i'm gushing about my old stompin' grounds. you could say i'm a bit homesick.
