I really wish I could sing. You know, Id trade in anything I ever had for a voice that didnt sound worse than a collection of dying goats being slaughtered by rapidly flung hyenas. I could go outside and sing now but I bet someone would call the cops on me. There is no place I can go to just sing.
It really isnt fair. I mean, an artist can paint late into the night hours and not bother anyone, and a writer could type and type until the dawn and unless they live in a one room apartment with a very noisy keyboard, they wouldnt be disturbed. But a musician? Ha! A musician is fucked from the get-go, especially when it comes to a vocalist. Nowadays, some instruments such as keyboards and guitars are made electrical, so their sound can be lowered to whatever a pair of earphones would allow, cushioning the outside from being able to acknowledge the sound waves in the air are being stirred. I wonder if one day they will implant some kind of sound control device in humans so that parents can turn us on and off as they please and we could plug our vocal chords into some high-concept design headphones so that no one else could hear us scream when we felt the need to do so. I doubt this is possible, but one thing I would want to purchase is a sound proof box. Not a room. A box. Just a cubicle that would fit neatly over my head and tie at the neckline, securing all sound inside. It would be extra-nice if it was translucent in the front so that I would be able to see any sheet music needed to attempt to sing a song properly. The sound proof box would be cushioned for optimum comfort and designed with the best acoustics possible in the limited space. A guitar or keyboard could be plugged into the box just as they would be attached to a pair of headphones with a special adaptor cord, purchased for 15 dollars or less. For an extra 50 bucks, you could get an entire light show set up inside your box so you can imagine being on stage at your very own concert, while youre loved one sleeps a few feet away. If your friends have a box, join your cube-heads together for your very own rock-star concert (audience not included.)
