Snow in Seattle can really suck, because there's a town that is poorly equipped to handle snow.


Let me take you back to December 1996. My house in Seattle was on Franklin, at the lowest point underneath I-5, just one street off Eastlake (directly behind the KIRO radio building -- I recently heard it's all condos there now). The day after Xmas, it snowed like a foot or so, and before it had a chance to melt off, it rained buckets for a couple days after that. It was insane trying to get around there at that time. The flooding was off the hook. The streets in my neighborhood were so steep, we were like stranded for almost a week. Nuts, I tell ya.

eeeeek what happened? I guess I have to go back and read some old journals or something to figure it out.

Its hard work. I am learning how to work. In fact I just stopped and restarted another story that I hope I can condense into short fiction, and maybe swing into a future McSweeney's.

In all it the most insane thing to do. To write. Not when you don't dream anymore.
