I hate to sound so American, but this whole thing smells like a lawsuit.
One time, my boss gathered us all together for a "team meeting" and told us that since we weren't working the following Monday, but we were working Saturday, we weren't going to receive overtime for the Saturday but get paid regular time instead. If taken to court, that's up to a fee of $100,000 to be split among the employees. I led our coworkers into fighting it, and we did end up getting overtime, but I got a three day suspension for something I didn't do the week after.
