People say I don't update enough. To which I say...
I've been busy lately. And not the "I say I'm busy so I can avoid people" variety, either...no, I'm talking about the real kind. Between work, school, and getting ready for the China trip, I really haven't had time for much of anything else, honestly. Going to China requires a lot of paperwork, especially since this will be my first trip off the North American continent. First off, you need a Chinese visa. Which you can't get without roundtrip plane tickets. Which you can't get without a passport. Which you can't get without two recent color photographs and two forms of ID. None of which, naturally, can be had without...
MONEY.
Fortunately, my student loan check finally cleared today and my birth certificate finally arrived via FedEx today, so now, at least, I can get the ball rolling.
And then there's the added dimension of getting college credit for this little expedition. Granted, I do have a professor who's helping me out with this angle immensely, but there's still paperwork to be filled out and signatures to collect in order to get this classified as an "independent study." Oh, the fun of dealing with the university bureaucracy.
You know what they say about all work and no play, though...
Oh, well, at least my college's campus is beautiful this time of year. Which is good, since this is about the only thing I've gotten to see outside of a classroom, retail outlet, office, or apartment in recent days....
Well...back to work. I still have a Russian history midterm on Monday to study for, a research paper that needs to be worked on, dishes and laundry that need to be washed, cats that want attention...and two more shifts at work to distract me between now and Monday.
No rest for the weary...
At least I still have the Matisyahu concert in Asheville to look forward to this Tuesday!
Edited to add: I was agonizing over even mentioning this, since I doubt that she wants me to make any big deal about it. But I can't just sit idly by and not say or do anything, so in the interest of protecting her anonymity, I'll just leave her name out of this entry. I found out recently that a good friend of mine has just been diagnosed with lupus. If any of y'all are of any particular religious/spiritual persuasion, I would appreciate it very much if you would keep her in your thoughts/prayers/meditations (and I'm sure she would appreciate it as well). If I receive word of any change in her condition, I'll let you know. Thank you.
