For the first time this season the Steelers would play a completive game at our 2nd home IceSheffield pad 1 (now known as the bauer arena) to face the Edinburgh Capitals in the challenge cup quarter final 2nd leg. For the Caps this was the first time they had ever qualified for the knockout stages of the cup and following a 2-2 draw in the 1st lag at Murrayfield there was still all to play for in this match. After the first period the scores would remain tied as Levi Nelson's goal for the Steelers would be cancelled out by the Caps player coach Michael Dobron. In the second period Levi Nelson would get his 2nd goal of the game which would be the game and tie winner. Goals from Robert Dowd and Andreas Franzon would make it 4-1 at the end of the period. And the goals kept coming in the final period as John Armstrong would make it 5-1 Liam Kirk would net his 2nd goal for the Steelers to make it 6-1 and finally Guillaume Desbiens would score his 3rd goad of the tie for a final score of Steelers 7 Capitals 1 the Steelers winning 9-3 on aggregate to advance to the semi finals to face the winners of the tie between the Nottingham Panthers and the Braehead Clan
My man of the match - Levi Nelson for 2 goals including the match winner
My man of the quarter final - Guillaume Desbiens for 3 goals (2 in the 1st leg 1 in the 2nd leg)
The following night the Steelers travelled to Cardiff to face the Devils with what I can honestly say was some of the worst officiating I've ever witnessed in an EIHL game ultimately costing the Steelers a 3-2 defeat
Next up - An away/home double header against the Panthers in a busy month that could make or break our season
