Five-minute fiction - 00:36-00:41
The blade whistled in at neck level forcing Grim to throw himself backward into a roll. He came up on the soles of his feet a par of slender daggers in his hands. But there were nothing there. No attacker, no sprung trap, nothing but the empty darkness of the corridor. Behind him, Darker, slunk in through the window, the mans bulk proving to be no hinderance as he stalked quietly toward where Grim stood. A quick gesture froze Darker in place and Grim heard the rasp of metal on metal as Darker drew his own daggers. Another gesture and Grim crouched low moving forward into the corridor.
The darkness seemed to dance, to come alive as he watched. Shadows twisted forming half-shapes before fading away. Grims eyes spun from left to right, up and down, searching, seeking, seeing.
