Update at bottom.
GAH! I am so fucking furious with the assistant manager.
*Names have been changed to protect my ass.
Last night George text messaged me (btw I hate that people call it "texting" or "texted me") to see if I would trade shifts. I said I would but not in time so he tried to be nice and do some of my morning work. The closer, Jessica, thought he didn't do his work so she did it even though he'd done it and I then I ended up redoing it this morning.
So in talking about it, the AM said, "Morning work is for the morning person. Night work if for the night people." Fair enough, but then goes on to say Jessica is furious with George for taking his food to go (she's right but the rule of eating food at the restaurant is totally not enforced).
Turns out she's actually upset because George won't work a friday night for her (He and I are the only ones who don't work that night, thereby we are the only ones who can cover for her). He won't cover for her because she refuses to cover a saturday night for him. It's a fair trade and I'm sure he'd like a weekend off just as much as she would. George asks me if I'm working it. I have nfc what he's talking about. Then it comes out that we're no longer allowed to request time off on the sheet of paper on the hostess stand, but have to go around to each individual person and ask (seems like wasted effort). AM tells me Jessica didn't ask me because word got out that I won't cover shifts for anyone, which is true because AM told me when I got back from Hawaii that no one wanted to cover for me. Besides, Jessica didn't cover any of my shifts for my Hawaii trip.
To rub salt in my anger wound, she and the AM both basically demanded I give them gifts from Hawaii, of which I had none. I gave a necklace or anklet to the people who covered my shifts, one to a hostess I'm friends with, and a bracelet and coin purse to another server who is actually a friend I see outside of work. Why would I give them anything when a) Jessica didn't help me and b) AM said she didn't want anything!
So because George and I won't cover the shift, AM announces she will get someone to cover it, even if she gets someone from another location. George suggests Jessica should be written up. AM says, "Why would someone who has worked here for eight years and never takes time off get written up for requesting one night off?" (My answer: because she didn't show up for her shift, which is a fireable offense, according to the precedents.) Then she goes on: "When someone else took two weeks off without getting shifts covered, on top of having other time off?" She's referring to me and my trip to Hawaii, plus the two weekends I had wedding stuff for a friend. I was sitting right fucking there. My answer: I had the shifts covered once, with the exception of a couple, but you fired someone and the people covering for me were then given permanent shifts that conflicted. I even got an extra shift a week out of the ordeal.
Also if we're going to argue Jessica never takes time off, how many times have I covered for her because she was sick? What about when she tells us she now has a day job and can no longer work half her shifts? Boy those got covered real quick (when I can't even get Tuesdays covered because I have another job).
Additionally, if we're going to make arguments that I should have been written up, I expected to be fired. I also don't think it's fair to say Jessica outranks me. I've been there a year and a half. That's a long fucking time in the restaurant business. Plus, I'm the one they'd call when they needed a shift covered at the last minute. So all those favors I did for other people, obviously count for nothing. You're damn straight I won't cover for any one. I fucking covered for them for months before I needed help. And guess what, no one wanted to help me. So why would I help now? I'm not even allowed to request time off! (AM tells me when I get back, "Everyone is really angry that you bugged them and then we bugged them to cover shifts. You had a long time off. No one wants to cover for you.)
Oh one more point: Jessica is late for almost every fucking shift! Even when she just worked full-time at the restaurant, she'd be 10 minutes late, always with some excuse: "I couldn't find parking." "I accidentally dumped out my apron." But I show up at least five to 10 minutes early and if I am going to be late, I call to tell them what's up.
I'm debating if I give them two weeks or wait and make Feb. 22 my last day (Dad's taking RS, the family and me to a King's game Feb. 24 and I'm not allowed to ask for the time off).
Mom is worried about me having enough money. I'll find a way to survive. I always do. I just might not be able to go out as much or I'll have to cancel my Netflix or something. I'll find a way to not work there.
Update
I also forgot to mention, Jessica gets at least one personal phone call a night. At least one.
AM also started talking shit about this morning's incident, and I clearly heard her say she told us to tell her to her face if we have a problem. I think it's funny that she doesn't want us talking shit, but she sure as hell can.
I'm going to give them as little notice as possible. They've fucked me over, it's time for a little pay back.
