So MadCat has corneal ulcers. The vet took off the loose layers of the cornea with a q-tip after putting him under anesthesia. I now get to put an antibiotic ointment and a pain relief ointment in his eye. Not exactly easy with a cat who is pissed that he got put under yesterday and now his eye hurts.
I tried pinning him down, he ran off growling. I tried wrapping him in a blanket, he ran off growling. I tried one more time and he did the same thing. What really hurts is I know he needs the meds but he just doesn't want anyone touching his eye. And when he runs he only goes so far before he just stops and doesn't struggle when I pick him up again.
I called the vet and he said Mad does have a shot of long term cortisone in him that should help and we may just have to take him in every couple weeks until his eye heals. I'm hoping he'll feel better about his eye later. I'm going to keep it as clean as possible and just try to see if I can get the antibiotics in.
The vet was much better than the one we saw last year who basically said my cat has kitty lupus. This vet said a shot of cortisone every four to six weeks should take care of him. He will live a long happy life on the long-term cortisone therapy.
The problem that really worries me is what my family will do when I'm not here. Maddy needs to go back to the vet next week for a check up on his eye. I don't know if they'll have time (the reason they let him get as bad as he did). I don't know that mom will want to give him the cortisone therapy. I'm willing to pay for it. I may just talk my brother into doing it for now. Unfortunately he leaves for college in the fall. Maybe by then I can take Mad home with me and find a good vet in LA.
I love this cat more than anything. He was there with me through those awful high school years when I would cry myself to sleep every night. He loved my tears dripping on him. I just don't want to give up on him.

I hope he feels better soon!

One of my cats had an eye infection. We had to put stuff in her eye everyday. She hated us and it took two of us to do it.
