I'm getting too old for this, I think.
I've spent the past few parties I've been at about 80% sober, and more or less sworn off hard liquor. Last party I got *really* drunk at, I ended up slumped under the back porch until a roman candle exploded on my head. Don't try this at home.
I spent about an hour the other night getting one of my friends home. I had to take her cellphone away - I don't know who she was trying to call, but it was fairly certain that they would not have appreciated the call at 4AM. I thought the cabbie was going to kick us out when she started making fun of his name. I had to bodily carry her up the stairs to her house (not fun when you've been doing squats that morning), and I only felt comfortable leaving her there to go to sleep because we woke up a few of her housemates who promised to check in on her and make sure she didn't choke in her sleep.
This is just fucking getting old. I want to be able to have conversations with my friends at parties. I want to be able to flirt with people who'll at least remember it. I want friends who will go out and *do* something instead of sitting around apartments having the kind of conversations and playing the kind of music you only enjoy when you're plastered. I've lost two friends already into the bottom of a bottle, neither of whom are getting help, and both of whom were smarter and better philosophers than I am when they started.

The Political Compass shows dimensions for Left/Right, Authoritarian/Libertarian splits.

So you can someone like Martin Friedman be in the Right Wing Libertarian section, some like Stalin in the Left Wing Authoritarian, the basic Green Party in the Left Wing Libertarian, and the mainstream parties life Democrats, Republicans, Tories, Conservatives, Labour would all be the Right Wing Authoritarian.
It's not black and white, because the people and parties and ideas are on a 2 dimensional continuum.
