Yesterday was brilliant from 6pm onwards. Before that it was work which wasn't great but we can pretend that never happened.
Firstly The Romans FC had our first friendly. We got thrashed but by a team that was much better organised then us and has been going a lot longer then us. Not that we've been going very long really. weeks in fact.
I think its the first time I've played organised 11-a-side proper football since I was 12. It was fantastic despite the thumping we took and I'm really looking forward to the season. I even managed to forget it was raining until after when I realised how wet I was.
Then a mad dash home for a bath (because running around makes me stink
) and then charge into town to see my all time indie hero Darren Hayman play his first proper solo show in Brighton. His old band Hefner pretty much soundtracked my late teen years and kept me sane when I thought I was the only one alone.
He was great, played loads of Hefner songs and some knew songs which all seem to involve the ukulele
but are still mighty fine. After his set (he was on second) he was stood right next to me watching the headliners and could I talk to him? Of course I couldn't. I don't know why I can't talk to my heroes, I don't think many of them bite. I'm just lame I guess.
I am also totally in
with the new New Pornographers album. People have been on at me for ages about them so I finally took a chance on the new record and now I'm wondering why I took so long. Idiot (as Napoleon might say. I've been watching Napoleon Dynamite a lot because everybody should.)
And at midnight Empire Records was on the tele.
So I watched that, didn't get enough sleep and woke up late for work but it was worth it.
Told you it was a good day.
This week coming is pretty awesome as well. On Sunday I go to Trent Bridge, Nottingham to watch England play better cricket then the Australians (fingers crossed). Thursday I go to Manchester to watch Sleater-Kinney. Then on Friday I travel back south to watch Sleater-Kinney again in London.
Saturday is my friend Holly leaving party which is rubbish because she is leaving to go back and live with her folks in sodding Blackpool while she trys to pay of a whole load of debt. It will be a great party though so I am going to make sure she has an amazing send off. Thats what friends are for after all.
If I could just ignore work my life would be amazing. My Dad looks like getting a premanent job at last (but I wont jinx it, I'll just say he's really positive) and if that happens life at home will be a whole lot less stressfull. I've got a sunday morning football team. I'm seeing loads of great gigs. And fantastic sport. All in all its rather good.
If only I didn't need work to pay for it all.
