Sometimes it takes something special to remind me how great the town I live in is.
Last night was something special.
My friends band The Pipettes played a gig at a venue I'd never heard of so I went along to offer them support. Wasn't feeling great but as they habe only just started I knew they'd be on early and I could go home. Their set was excellant, especially considering this was their first acoustic show. I am getting used to fantastic shows from them.
The rest of the night was a mix of poetry and music. Some of the poetry was excellant and some was disn't do anything for me. The other musical sets were by folk singer Mary Hampton and a local musician who is as much a satirist as a musician. Mary Hampton was wondeful but she always is and if you get the chance you should definately go see her.
Aside from Mary Hampton though what really made the night excellant was the disparate backgrounds of the pople performing. Everyone except MH was local and everyone had been inspired by something differant. It was so great seeing all these local people aged from 18-50 coming together to put on a night of profoundly leftfield entertainment. I do not think there is another town in the UK that would treasure these people as much as Brighton does.
I'm very happy, its been a good few days.
