Today was the worst day at work. Absolutely nothing went right. I knew it wouldn't from the moment the woman I work with called in sick. At that point I knew what had been a very quiet week would become manically busy that day. Sods law. I wasn't wrong. Didn't stop for lunch, had a major 15 minute everything is fucking shit and you're all cunts moment in the middle of the the afternoon and ended up working 1/2 an hour unpaid overtime. Bollocks.
I have avoided brain damage by hitting my head on the desk by getting a bit pissed. It's still brain damage but it's much more pleasurable when it's inflicted by a very nice Spanish red.
The major everything is fucking shit and you're all cunts moment is the secret to me surviving 8 years in the customer services industry. People think I am really good at what I do and for the vast majority of my time I am pretty professional. Secretly though I don't actually like a lot of people and I avoid this in real life by just ignoring most of them. I also hate talking on the phone. It's pretty obvious that this is a problem when you spend 8 hours a day talking to people you don't really know on the phone. In order to survive I don't let my frustration out in the normal way - hanging up and blotting then out of my life - I have to store it. Once a twice a week, normally after a few days without drink funnily enough, I let it all out in one enormous rant which consists of 90% cursing and the occasional noun. Right in the middle of the office so everyone can hear. Everyone at work thinks it's disgraceful but I'd never have lasted this long if I didn't do it, it's a survival technique. I might even write a book.
Today's was epic though, even I was impressed.

I used to storm off for a coffee, cursing and punching the doors open as I went, usually about once every couple of days or so. I think the management were outraged by my behaviour but were all too scared to say anything!
