Musical Musings.
I am in love with the music of Laura Veirs, have been for a couple of years now. I think her current record, Year Of Meteors is great and that the previous one, Carbon Glacier is a minor masterpiece.
However last year I went to see her at the Komedia in Brighton which is a lovely venue for watching folk music and somewhere I usually really enjoy gigs. So everything was set up perfectly for a great gig.
For some reason it didn't work She wasn't bad and the songs were still lovely but something didn't click. That little spark which turns good songs into magic moments you remember forever just wasn't there. I couldn't put my finger on it but it just didn't work and I went home confused and disappointed.
Now usually I don't give artists a second chance but her records are stunning and as she was back in town last night I went down to see her. Somehow, in the space of a year she has found presence and hunour on stage. She was amazing.
Nothing much had changed, similar songs and the same backing band but this time everything seemed to fit. So now I am really confised as to how an artist can have such a differant effect on me at 2 differant shows barely a yea apart?
So still confused but a lot happier. The magic of music I guess.
