I have been staying up playing Football Manager all night every night for weeks now. Going to sleep at 3 or 4 and the getting up at 6 is not good and as usual when I do it I manage to reset my bodyclock. It's amazing how quickly I can make my body get used to being virtually asleep during the day but nice and...

Thank you very much. I consider that a compliment of the highest regard. I think in a previous life must have indeed been a brit. In this life, the first moment it struck was as a wee lad. There was a group of high schoolers that were in a ska band, something unheard of in a small college town in Pennsylvania, but they fascinated me. Dawned in black or olive vinyl trenchcoats with union jacks sewn on the back along with bowling shoes and hats of which the like i'd never seen. They gathered on a wall downtown and drove their scooters in packs. They were ignored by most and scoffed at by the bordering campus attendees but not i. Shortly thereafter, seeing their band do what i am sure now would be considered an atrocious cover of " in the city " and watching " quadrophenia" a dozen times, the door was opened. From then it was the jam to the clash to the smiths with a sprinkling of what was then called FA Soccer on espn to oasis to bush to radiohead to oasis again to Fox Soccer Channel to oasis to the present.

I am now in the embryonic stage of planning a pilgrimage to your great land in october so stay tuned for endless questions on your tribe and its activities.

In typical English style another weather related post - it's snowed today!!!! The south-east of England traditionally gets one day of winter per year and this is it. Trains will be delayed, buses will get stuck and thousands of people will use 2-3cm (yes cm, not inches) of snow as an excuse not to go to work. All of you who experience proper winters feel...

Catching the bus home after work last night has gone staright into my top 5 most unpleasant experiences ever.

Some scene setting.

The bus stop I have to wait at is at the top of a hill, approx 300 feet high. It might not sound like much but this hill is the first one in from the coast. Between it and the sea there is...

That's what I told her: 'look: I'm so damn humble that you're bound to fall for me hard.' She looked at me funny, so then I said: 'so... you wanna fuck?' I'm too suave, eh?

What's happening with your weather over there? My friends keep telling me horror stories and I'm a bit worried the whole island will be blown under the waves before I get a chance to visit again. You should buy one of those badass drysuits they use to scuba dive in the arctic. I want one too.

All the football all over Sussex has been called off this weekend. Can't say I'm suprised as they were more mud then grass last week and it's rained all week since then. You'd probably be better off trying to swim on rather then play football.

Still makes for a boring weekend though and if I'm stuck in the house people start expecting me to help...

Wooo!!!!! First gig of the year. Mas fun. I saw Boy Least Likely To, Loney Dear and The Little Ones. Jangly indie-pop ahoy! With bonus extra harmonies. Some gigs just cheer you up and are almost made for how you feel. Last night was one of those biggrin

Now I am sitting at home listening to Nina Nastasia and pondering the fact that she is not...

I have never heard of a single band about which you talk ..I think this makes me ignorantly cool biggrin
takesatraintocry:
Must check out Nina. At the moment she's one of those names that rings a bell and perks up my indie-radar. (INdar?)

I dig fully that Boy Least Likely To album. If a condom ever breaks, I'll play that for my kid when he's six or seven and it'll be a hit. ...which is I guess to say that I'm still a big kid.

Last thoughts for Beckham: my knowledge of football is limited, but I do enjoy it. That said, I can't see that he's SUCH a defensive liability, so having the set play skills he has seems to me to be a pretty great boon to whichever team he's on. I'd love to see a statistical analysis of the scoring in major European soccer; I bet having a one-trick pony like him is actually a pretty big bonus, given the unnatural number of goals made on corners and free kicks. Do I sound like I know the first thing about the game? No. But I do enjoy a good game.

I'm still ill but the antibiotics have cleared up my throat a bit. Now all I have is a bunged up nose. The worst part is that I can't play football mad

Otherwise it's been a pretty uneventful week. A couple of nice drinking sessions with my sister on Friday and some mates on Saturday. I've hardly spent any money either which is good.

Ho hum

it's a shame we have to get old....

We stole your most overrated player!

(have to add: 1.) 'we' doesn't mean me. I have nothing to do with LA. Nor do I want to have anything to do with that godforsaken hellhole. 2.) I think Beckham's actually OK. If he weren't handsome, nobody would take the time to point out how average he is athletically. 3.) hope you're better.)

My Dad insisted I go to my GP last night. I kept telling him it I was fine and it was just a cold but he wouldn't shut up about it so I went. It transpires that I have a throat infection. I still say I'm fine but it doesn't sound very convincing at the moment. If the course of antibiotics I've been prescribed stops...

I still have a cold frown but as I have gone back to work today I can justify getting bladdered with my sister biggrin She's made up some rubbish about not much money and having things to do tomorrow morning. As if any of that matters when theire's drink on the table. biggrin

Free music - it's silly and brilliant and rubbish, sometimes all at the same time....

Best of luck my friend... ARRR!!!

Sorry Mate... Were you one of the 5,000 Seagull supporters who packed out the
Centenary Stand in Upton Park. If you were, I hope you gave it to Bowyer and Etherington as they are total twats. How did the Argentinian Tevez play...hope pretty fuckin well since he and his countrymen pretty much got Pardew sacked and likely the Hammers relegation.

On the positive side, a Seagull did have one of the goals of the week on Fox Soccer Channel... Jake or Jack something...

City takes on Sheffield Wednesday Sunday... surely we won't lose to owls... ooo aaa

I've got a cold frown so now I'm sat at home feeling shit. I'm probably not getting paid for it either as my sickness record at work is rubbish. Things are dead at work so it's not like I'll be missed much.

Any I've got Joan As Policewoman on the stereo, plenty of tea and a enough pills to get me through the day so I...

I'm sorry to hear you are sick frown I went through the same thing myself over Christmas. Colds suck.

Other than being sick, Christmas was good as was New Years. It seems you and I did the opposite, as usually I do stay home but this year I went out with the BF and some friends and caught some great bands. Nothing like good live music to ring in your new year too.

And thank you so much for the kind words. The holidays always get me somewhat down, and coupled with my unemployment and uncertain feelings about where I want to go in life just didn't make it any easier. This year though will be a fresh start to something good, I just know it wink

Hope you feel better soon!

So that was 2006 eh?Hmm.

Moved out of my parents house.
Moved back in to my parents house.
Kept the same job for a whole calender year.
Played an awful lot of football.
Stopped going to watch football.
No major arguments or fallings out.
No major new friends.

Started drinking at 4pm yesterday
Will start drinking at 5pm today
Will probably start drinking at 10am tomorrow
Will probably start drinking at 1pm on Boxing Day

Don't you just love Christmas biggrin

I've got a week off now, much easier to get into the spirit of things when you aren't stuck in a soul destroying office.
