I've said this before, and I'll probably say it again in the near future, but for someone who doesn't drink I spend way too much time hungover.
I woke up this morning despite all my best efforts. God I feel like crap. I still haven't recovered from wandering around the ren fair, which indicates that I am out of shape to a frightening and alarming degree.
I feel terrible. I'm exhausted, fatigued, and pumped full of enough mosquitoe poison to lay low a horse. Plus I totally failed to get up and do all the important and useful things I wanted to do today. *sigh* I am the kick of all.
I've decided to reinforce myself with lots of water and tea, two bags, green. I figure that if the healing power of green tea *cough* caffeine *cough* can't save me then nothing can.
I'm trying very hard to be useful and effective right now, and It just is not happening. The current objective is 'Clean room, clear floor, mop, get rid of sweaty boy smell'. So far I've made it to 'Drink lots of tea, feel muggy, battle self to do something useful.'
I desire a vacation to a place where the beaches are warm, the oceans have clean white sandy beaches, the seawater is loaded with skin friendly minerals other than salt, devoid of living creatures, and continually filtered to remove bacteria and other unpleasentries. The beach will be a pleasent 85 degrees and lit by carefully misplaced indirect sunlight. The whole rest of the island will be a balmy 32 and covered in two feet of light, fluffy snow. There will be lots of saunas and natural hot springs. The whole place will be riddled with clean, good smelling caves with convenient but challenging handholds and none of the mess normally associated with bats. There will be lots of wildlife, but it will all be mechanical and run on water. Infact, the whole bloody place will be designed to artificially mimic all the good things about nature, like the pleasentness and the soft bits, but without all the bloody awful things related to nature, like the bugs, the diseases, the mud, the lack of toilet facilities and showers, and the alergies.
It'll be camping as imagined by a space faring ten year old who has only ever read about 'Nature' in his school text books. It will be lovely.
I like antiseptic. I find autoclaves to be vaguely erotic. The idea of paving the world over with chromium and encasing all the nasty living bits in domes and declaring them to be natural history museums makes me smile. I think of genetic engineering as the next 'wash your hands before operating on your patient'. I want the world to be made out of plastic and stainless steel. I want it all to be made exhaustively pleasent by benefit of careful artifice. I want clean, clean, clean. I want humanity to stop dicking around with all this inefficient selective breeding and all the rest of that darwinian poppycock and start building life forms from the DNA up. Seriously, if you're going to have biodiversity you might as well spice things up and create some blue deer, and maybe a spotted Rhinocerous that is good with children. It's not like there is really any nature left. We've killed off all the predators and totally subverted natural selection to our own benefit. The real problem isn't that we've been doing it, it's that we've either been doing it by accident or half-assing it and dragging our feet, and being all guilty about 'Oh, well this is all an unnatural abomination that nature did not intend!' Stuff it! We are nature. Of all the things on this planet we're the best at looking at a mountain and saying 'According to Feng Shui that mountain shouuld be two feet to the right' And then we bloody well go and bulldoze the thing two feet to the right.
I want to start a campaign for a wholely artificial earth. We'll kill everything and rebuild the ecosystem from scratch. There won't be any diseases or any of that nonsense. In fact, the smallest critter on earth will be big enough to easiely see with the naked eye. We'll use lots of blues and pinks. We'll have flying lizards the size of city buses. We'll have twelve foot long mammilian predators that lay eggs, use tools, communicate verbally, and drink tea in their off hours. It'll be absolutely fucking marvellous. Talking trees, grasses that produce fibers with the qualities of both silk and tungsten, fish that complete their life cycles by migrating back to the farms that spawned them, swimming into a collection tank, and dying pleasently while producing natural preservatives in their bloodstreams. Cat-buses!
I'm done ranting for the moment. Take your damned vitamins, finish your anti-biotic cycles, and support GE research and development.
