I have experienced a bit of frustration here of late. As some of you know I have had some good luck with weight loss in the last year. I originally lost 45 lbs (From 365 to 320lbs) From September of last year to February of this year. Most of this was due to balancing my diet and increasing my workouts at the dojo. In March I suddenly gained five pounds only to drop ten by April. I remained steady at 315lbs up until the end of June beginning of July. Around that time I gained another ten pounds. And have steadily remained here since then.

Now I know people hit a plateau when working out but here is my frustration: While it is great I feel great, have the best cardio of my life, and am visibly loosing my stomach and other fatty areas, I would like to loose the weight solely due to the strain on my knee. I have had an injured knee for 16 years. Even though I am getting healthier and looking better, I want more than anything to lessen the weight and pressure I put on my knee. Due to the injuries I have with this knee, I find it difficult to complete certain wazas (martial arts talk for kung fu moves) and techniques which require the speed to drop to the ground and quickly get back up. My best example is my sprawl (for those of you who do not know MMA, this is the ability to "stuff" a takedown by moving your hips and legs backward while controling the upper body of an opponent). I can sprawl out pretty well but my recovery to stand up position is shit because I cannot stand up quickly without pain. In addition, it is hurting my ability at work. We had a restraint situation last night and when I went to run and respond to the emergency call my knee buckled as I shot up from the chair. I recovered but it definately slowed me down to assist a co-worker. I hate that feeling.

I have met with an old trainer of mine and my doctor and explained my frustrations. I got the stick with it speech from the trainer and my doctor also gave the speech and suggested a pill which costs $90 a month as an extreme solution (which the side effects are shitting fatty cells out of your body for an hour or so a day...no thanks...I'm good). They also explained the whole "muscle weighs more than fat so that is why you are staying the same weight and losing inches off your belly" theory but I am still frustrated...nay...pissed off. I know eventually I will get there but I needed to vent. I'm think I'm gonna go yell at my father since it is probally the fault of genetics.
